The Colour Blue
Did you ever think there would be something significant in the bible about the colour blue? There’s something quite interesting which we will unravel. The bible speaks about the significance of many colours. However we will focus mostly on the colour blue today, Let’s consider the passage below:
“Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue: And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the Lord, and do them ; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.”
Numbers 15:38 (King James Version).
It’s interesting that God told the Israelites to wear a ribband(tassle) of the colour blue. This was initiated in order for them to remember the commandments of God, and to do them. So whenever the colour blue was to be seen, it would act as a reminder to keep all the commandments. There must have been a tendency in which they would forget to keep the law of God, otherwise they would not have been required to remember.
So the colour blue is connected to the commandments of God. Let’s now analyse the commandments a bit closer and a bit deeper.
We have seen that the colour blue refers to the remembrance of the commandments. So now what is the significance of the commandments?
Psalms 97:2 – Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgement are the habitation of his throne.
The word habitation is translated, in many bible versions, into the word ‘foundation’. So Righteousness and judgement are the foundation of God’s throne.
Now take note of the text below:
“My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness.” Psalms 119:172
So we now see that when the bible says righteousness is the foundation of God’s throne, we can then also use the word ‘commandments’. So now we can see that the commandments of God are of great significant because they are the building blocks (the foundation) of God’s throne which is in heaven.
John the revelator, in the book revelation, had a vision in which he saw the ark of the covenant in heaven, this is very significant when we study the sanctuary because we will find out that there is actually a sanctuary in heaven. So far we have seen that Righteousness and Judgement(The Law of God) is the foundation of God’s throne. Please also note that in the time of the Old Testament the Ark of the covenant contained the commandments of God which were written with his own finger.
Let’s now notice what John saw in the book of revelation (Don’t forget that Christ had already risen and was now in the heavenly temple):
‘And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.’ Revelation 11:19.
We stated earlier that in the time of the Old Testament the Ark of the testament contained the commandments of God. It’s now interesting to see that even in heaven there is also an Ark of the Testament. Very interesting. Let’s now go one more step deeper into the commandments.
The word ‘Remember’
Through this post we have seen a glimpse of the importance of the law of God. We saw that the colour blue reminded the Israelites to keep the commandments of God. Within the law of God (The Commandments), we will now see that the fourth commandment also contains the word remember, let’s consider it, this is very significant:
‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.’ (Exodus 20:8-11)
The fourth commandment as we have just seen mentions that there should be a remembrance to keep the Sabbath holy. This commandment was written so that God as the creator can be remembered. When God finished creating the world he blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.
‘Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.’ (Genesis 2:1-3)
God is worth of worship, why? There’s a simple answer: Revelation 4:11 tells us that it is because God created us:
‘You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honour and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.’
The fourth commandment, to remember the Sabbath, reveals the importance of having a personal relationship with God, who is Our Creator.
…Speaking of the colour blue, lets consider the next section!
The Church without Blue
Consider the interesting passage below, but first! we need to set a foundation before reading the passage: In bible prophecy a Woman represents a church. A pure woman represents a pure church, and an impure woman(harlot) represents an impure church (“I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.” Jeremiah 6:2. “And say unto Zion, Thou art my people.” Isaiah 51:16. See also Ephesians 5:25 and 2 Corinthians 11:2)
With this foundation set Let’s now notice the colours of the woman(church) in revelation 17:1-6. Notice carefully the colours that are mentioned, and look out for the colour which is missing. This was a vision by John the revelator, found in the last book of the bible:
Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgement of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.
Did you see it? Which colour is missing? The colour blue is missing right! According to what we have studied so far the colour blue represents the need to remember to Keep all of Gods commandments.
According to the passage above, this church does not have obedience to Gods commandments and if you were to study the entire chapter you find that this woman was drunk with the blood of the saints. The woman is also described as the mother of harlots which means there are other churches that have direct roots with this church or organisation, this means there are churches which do not have the colour blue (they do not uphold all the commandments of God, including the sabbath). A further blog post on this will be made to prove this abit more. The destiny of this church(woman) is that it ends up facing God’s wrath due to the sins of which she has committed.
Now in contrast let’s find out about another church, this time it’s a pure church:
‘And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.’ Revelation 12:17 .
We now see that in contrast this woman keeps the commandments of God. In other words according to the principle she actually has the colour blue. A more detailed post will soon be published to explain this woman more deeper, we will then compare the woman of Revelation 12 with the woman of Revelation 17. However the most important point is that we have now seen that a pure church keeps the commandments of God.
The Conclusion of the matter
The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. (Psalms 19:1)
When there are no clouds above, the colour of the sky(‘or the colour of the heavens’) will always appear to be primarily blue. We have now understood how seeing the colour blue can actually become a reminder for us even today to remember to be more obedient to Gods word.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)
If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15)
